You can charge the R1T at home or at a public charging station. When on the road, the R1T's navigation system can locate nearby chargers. It can also find charging stations farther along your route and estimate how long a charge will take. Rivian is in the process of building a nationwide charging network similar to Tesla's Supercharger network.
The R1T's charging time depends on the method used. Plugging in with a Level 1 120-volt household-style power outlet can add up to 3 miles of range per hour. That's fine for emergency use, but it's not practical long term. It's better to use a 240-volt household outlet or a Level 2 public charging station. These methods can add about 16 miles of range per hour. Rivian also sells a higher-amperage charger (Rivian Wall Charger) that can be installed in your home; it can add 25 miles of range per hour and fully charge the battery in about 13 hours.
The quickest way to charge the R1T is by plugging in at a DC Fast Charging station. These Level 3 public chargers can add up to 140 miles of range in as little as 20 minutes.
The R1T is an all-new vehicle, so it's hard to say how long the battery will last. Rivian covers the battery with an eight-year/175,000-mile warranty.
