Further exterior styling includes xenon headlights, fog lights, sequential LED taillights, tinted windows, a rearview camera, parking sensors, and dual exhaust outlets. The left mirror has been repaired. Blemishes in the paint are presented in the gallery. The 20″ five-spoke alloy wheels were mounted with Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 tires in 2024. The left-rear wheel has been refinished. A pair of auxiliary gauges are mounted in a pod atop the center stack. The digital odometer indicates 26k miles. The supercharged 5.0-liter Coyote V8 was modified by Saleen with a twin-screw supercharger, an oil cooler, and a PowerFlash engine calibration. Output was rated by Saleen at 715 horsepower and 595 lb-ft of torque. The intake manifold gaskets were replaced in 2021, the oil was changed in 2025, and the battery was replaced in 2026. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, and a Saleen-tuned dual exhaust system was reportedly fitted..

2017 Ford Mustang: A Detailed Overview

The 2017 Ford Mustang continued its legacy as an iconic American muscle car, offering a potent blend of performance, style, and modern technology. It represented a significant evolution from its predecessors, building upon the retro-inspired design of the sixth-generation while refining its driving dynamics and feature set. This overview delves into what made the 2017 Mustang a compelling choice for enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike.

Highlights

The 2017 Ford Mustang impressed with its diverse powertrain options, robust safety features, and a range of well-defined trims catering to different preferences.

  • Engine Options:
    • 2.3L EcoBoost Inline-4: This turbocharged engine offered a spirited and efficient performance, producing 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. It was a fantastic option for those seeking a balance of power and fuel economy, providing brisk acceleration and a surprisingly engaging driving experience.
    • 5.0L Ti-VCT V8: The heart of the Mustang GT, this legendary engine delivered a formidable 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. It offered the classic, visceral V8 rumble and exhilarating acceleration that Mustang enthusiasts crave.
  • Safety Features:
    • Antilock Braking System (ABS): Prevents wheels from locking up during hard braking, allowing the driver to maintain steering control.
    • Electronic Stability Control (ESC): Helps the driver maintain control of the vehicle during extreme steering maneuvers or on slippery surfaces by automatically applying brakes to individual wheels and reducing engine power.
    • Traction Control System (TCS): Helps prevent wheel spin during acceleration, especially on slippery surfaces, improving grip and stability.
    • Airbags: A comprehensive suite of airbags, including front, side-curtain, and knee airbags for both front occupants, provided crucial protection in the event of a collision.
    • Rearview Camera: Standard on all trims, aiding in safer reversing and parking.
    • Available Blind-Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross-Traffic Alert: This system alerts the driver to vehicles in their blind spots and behind them when backing out of a parking space, significantly enhancing situational awareness.
  • Trim Summary:
    • EcoBoost: The entry-level trim, featuring the 2.3L EcoBoost engine. It provided a great introduction to Mustang performance and was well-equipped with standard features.
    • GT: The performance-oriented trim, powered by the iconic 5.0L V8 engine. It offered enhanced braking, suspension, and other performance-oriented upgrades.
    • GT Premium: Built upon the GT, this trim added more luxury and convenience features, including upgraded interior materials and technology.
    • Shelby GT350 / GT350R: These were the halo performance variants, equipped with a specialized 5.2L Voodoo flat-plane crank V8 engine producing 526 horsepower. They were track-focused machines with significant chassis and aerodynamic enhancements, offering an unparalleled driving experience for the most discerning enthusiasts.
  • Other Notable Aspects:
    • Independent Rear Suspension: A major improvement introduced in the sixth generation, the independent rear suspension significantly enhanced ride quality and handling, making the Mustang more refined and capable on a wider variety of roads.
    • SYNC 3 Infotainment System: Available on higher trims and as an upgrade, the SYNC 3 offered an intuitive and responsive touchscreen interface with smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), enhancing connectivity and entertainment.
    • Selectable Drive Modes: Drivers could choose between Normal, Sport+, Track, and Snow/Wet modes, allowing them to tailor the car's throttle response, steering feel, and stability control settings to suit driving conditions and preferences.

What to Expect

Owning a 2017 Ford Mustang typically offered a rewarding experience, characterized by its engaging driving dynamics and a reasonable ownership lifecycle.

  • Typical Ownership Experience: The Mustang is known for delivering a blend of everyday usability and thrilling performance. The refined suspension made it comfortable enough for daily commutes, while the potent engines provided exhilarating acceleration for weekend drives. The interior was driver-focused, with supportive seats and intuitive controls. The iconic styling also garnered attention and admiration from onlookers.
  • Maintenance: Like most performance vehicles, the Mustang generally requires regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity. This includes routine oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and tire rotations. The EcoBoost engine might have slightly lower maintenance costs than the V8 due to fewer cylinders and simpler components. However, for the GT and especially the Shelby models, more frequent and specialized servicing might be recommended by Ford. It's advisable to follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule.
  • Insurance: Insurance costs for a Mustang can vary significantly depending on the trim level, engine, driver's age and driving record, and geographic location. The more powerful V8 models, particularly the Shelby variants, are likely to have higher insurance premiums due to their performance capabilities and higher repair costs. It's always recommended to get quotes from multiple insurance providers before purchasing.

Potential Considerations

While the 2017 Mustang was a highly desirable vehicle, there were a few potential drawbacks or points that prospective buyers should be aware of.

  • Rear Seat Space and Visibility: As with many coupes, the rear seats in the Mustang are best suited for children or occasional adult passengers, offering limited legroom and headroom. The sloping roofline also contributes to somewhat compromised rear visibility, particularly when backing up or changing lanes, making the standard rearview camera and available blind-spot monitoring essential.
  • Interior Noise: While the Mustang's cabin was more refined than previous generations, some road and wind noise could still penetrate the cabin, especially at higher speeds. This was more noticeable on the performance-oriented trims with sportier tires.
  • Fuel Economy (V8 Models): While the EcoBoost engine offered respectable fuel economy, the 5.0L V8, as expected, was thirstier. Drivers who prioritize fuel efficiency would likely find the EcoBoost a more practical choice for daily driving.

Overall Summary

The 2017 Ford Mustang was a compelling package that successfully blended iconic American muscle car heritage with modern engineering and technology. It offered a range of potent engine choices, from the efficient and lively EcoBoost to the thunderous 5.0L V8, and the extreme performance of the Shelby variants. Its refined independent rear suspension delivered improved handling and ride comfort, making it more versatile than ever. With its striking design, engaging driving dynamics, and a host of available features, the 2017 Mustang remained a top contender for anyone seeking a thrilling and stylish driving experience with a storied lineage.
