2007 Ford Mustang GT Coupe With the exception of modern Mini Coopers, there may be no other car that lends itself to customization and personal touches than late model Ford Mustangs. Because the make has been around so long, an endless list of aftermarket companies provide both cosmetic and performance modifications that are essentially plug and play or snap on. Other owners, on the other hand, are perfectly content with the factory set up and think Ford got it right. For consignment, a 2007 Ford Mustang GT Coupe with a title verified 58,683 actual miles. This one's sporting a Procharger and many other performance parts, some of which helped it achieve a consignor stated 471 rear wheel horsepower on the dyno! Exterior The body is painted in aptly named Performance White, but that's on the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Side strobe stripes, an aggressive front splitter, big rear wing, and 18-inch black wheels add to its personalized looks and the American flags facing the correct direction on each fender are also a nice touch for this U.S. legend. A hood scoop tops the hood behind inboard fog lights in the grille, while out back, smoked tail lights hover over two chrome exhaust tips. Flared rocker panel trim adds a bit more eye candy while black side mirrors seem to disappear in silhouette. Imperfections are few and include some touched up scratches and chips, a scuff on the front fascia, and a bubble in a black stripe. Interior Carbon fiber switch panel covers occupy the otherwise standard door panels and both present well. Black leather bucket seats are up front and the material is used on the rear 2+2 and other than some minor creasing on the driver's seat, they present in very nice shape. Carbon fiber trim also adorns the steering wheel which fronts a standard GT instrument cluster with two main, deep welled gauges and others in the center. An AM/FM/CD with touchscreen is in the center stack over the A/C dials and a Barton shifter now resides on the center console, robust and ready to go. Black carpet below, a gray foam formed headliner above, and a gray paneled finished trunk complete our tour of this clean interior. Drivetrain Now it's time to get down and dirty, but we'll do it in a clean engine bay that's housing the 4.6 liter 3 valve V8 now featuring an appendage in form of a Procharger P1SC and a 10 pound pulley. To feed this beast, an MMR 880 fuel system has been added that includes an Aeromotive Boost A pump and fuel rails. It's mated to a Tremec 3650 5-speed manual transmission routing power to the Ford 8.8 in back with 3.73 gears and TracLoc. All good for 471 horsepower. Undercarriage Plenty of mods down here where things are also clean. We have headers that lead to dual exhaust, Borla mufflers, and polished tips. The power disc brakes are not merely mortal but include Powerstop Z23 Performance Evolution carbon ceramic pads as well as drilled and slotted rotors. Suspension include goodies such as a Ford Performance strut tower brace, Macpherson struts in front, SR rear shock brake, and a C&L adjustable panhard bar accompanying the coil springs for suspension in back. Drive-Ability A great sounding exhaust accompanies the start up of the V8 and into boost, we imagine that's accompanied by a supercharger whine, a sound more desirable than a Carrie Underwood ballad. Meanwhile, there's good power even without engaging the forced air and of course, handling is vastly improved over your stock GT. The tame interior will lull you into relaxation until you put your right foot down and hit a corner. All functions in this '07 work as they should and it's back to the stable for this racehorse. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Tasteful and fruit bearing modifications have been made here, and the exterior is subtle enough to still present as som

  • Reliability (4)
    4 out of 5 stars
Both the 4.0L V6 and the 4.6L V8 are notoriously durable engines. Common issues are minor, such as localized water leaks or early spark plug issues in the GT models.
  • Maintenance (5)
    5 out of 5 stars
Maintenance is incredibly affordable. Parts are plentiful and inexpensive due to the high production volume and massive aftermarket support, making it an ideal DIY vehicle.
  • Technology (2)
    2 out of 5 stars
Technology is very dated; while the Shaker 500/1000 audio systems are powerful, the car lacks modern essentials like Bluetooth, auxiliary inputs (on early models), and advanced safety tech.
  • Comfort (3)
    3 out of 5 stars
Front seats are surprisingly spacious and comfortable for daily driving, but the rear seats are strictly for small children and the interior features significant amounts of hard plastic.
  • Dynamics (4)
    4 out of 5 stars
The 2007 Mustang offers classic muscle car thrills with strong straight-line acceleration, though the live rear axle can feel unsettled on bumpy corners compared to independent setups.

2007 Ford Mustang

The 2007 Ford Mustang offered a compelling blend of classic American muscle car styling with modern performance and features, building upon the success of its 2005 redesign. It represented a significant step forward for the Mustang, appealing to both nostalgic enthusiasts and a new generation of buyers seeking a stylish and engaging coupe or convertible.

Highlights

  • Engine Options:

    • 4.0L SOHC V6: This engine provided a respectable 210 horsepower and 194 lb-ft of torque, offering a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency for everyday driving. It was a solid choice for those who wanted the Mustang look without the higher cost and fuel consumption of the V8.
    • 4.6L SOHC V8 (GT): The iconic "Bullitt" V8 delivered a potent 300 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. This engine was the heart of the Mustang GT, offering exhilarating acceleration and the unmistakable sound of American V8 power, making it the preferred choice for performance-oriented buyers.
  • Safety Features:

    • Front-Seat Side Airbags: These airbags deployed from the sides of the front seats to protect occupants' chests and abdomens in side-impact collisions.
    • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS): ABS prevents wheel lock-up during hard braking, allowing the driver to maintain steering control and reduce stopping distances, especially on slippery surfaces.
    • Traction Control: This system helps prevent wheel spin during acceleration, particularly on slippery surfaces, by reducing engine power or applying individual brakes. This enhances grip and stability.
    • AdvanceTrac with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) (Optional): A more advanced system that helps prevent skids and loss of control by automatically applying brakes to individual wheels and reducing engine power when it detects the vehicle is about to spin out.
  • Trim Summary:

    • Mustang V6: The entry-level model, offering the 4.0L V6 engine and a good array of standard features, including air conditioning, power windows and locks, and a CD player. This trim provided the Mustang experience at a more accessible price point.
    • Mustang GT: The performance-focused trim, equipped with the 4.6L V8 engine. It also often included upgraded suspension components, larger wheels, and distinctive GT badging to set it apart.
    • Mustang GT with Bullitt Package (Limited Edition): While not a separate trim in the traditional sense, the 2007 model year also featured a limited-production Bullitt package, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic movie. This package included unique styling cues like a dark metallic paint, a billet grille, special wheels, and a performance exhaust, along with a slight horsepower boost to the 4.6L V8. This was a highly desirable option for collectors and enthusiasts.
  • Other Notable Aspects:

    • Retro Styling: The 2007 Mustang continued to impress with its strong retro styling, reminiscent of the classic Mustangs of the 1960s. This aesthetic was a major draw for many buyers.
    • Independent Rear Suspension (IRS): A significant improvement over previous generations, the Mustang featured independent rear suspension, which greatly enhanced ride quality and handling, making it a more comfortable and capable car on a variety of roads.
    • Interior Design: The interior offered a driver-focused cockpit with a blend of classic and modern design elements, including a tasteful dashboard layout and comfortable seating.

What to Expect

Owning a 2007 Ford Mustang is typically a rewarding experience, marked by a blend of sporty driving dynamics and a sense of occasion. You can expect a car that feels engaging and fun to drive, especially the GT models. The V6 offers sufficient power for most driving situations, while the V8 GT provides ample acceleration for spirited driving and highway cruising.

  • Maintenance: Routine maintenance will be similar to other Ford vehicles of the era. Expect regular oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and brake checks. For the V8 models, keeping up with spark plug and fluid changes is crucial for optimal performance. While generally reliable, as with any vehicle of this age, keep an eye out for potential wear and tear on components like suspension bushings, exhaust systems, and aging interior electronics. Finding qualified mechanics familiar with the Mustang's platform should not be difficult.

  • Insurance: Insurance costs for a 2007 Mustang can vary significantly based on factors such as your age, driving record, location, and the specific trim level. The GT models, with their higher performance and potential for spirited driving, may incur higher insurance premiums compared to the V6 models. It's always advisable to get quotes from multiple insurance providers to find the best rates.

Potential Considerations

While the 2007 Mustang is a well-regarded vehicle, there are a few potential considerations for prospective buyers:

  • Interior Noise: Some owners have noted that road and wind noise can be more prominent in the Mustang compared to some more luxury-oriented coupes, especially at highway speeds. This is not uncommon for a sporty car, but it's something to be aware of if a whisper-quiet cabin is a top priority.
  • Rear Seat Space: The rear seats in the Mustang are best suited for children or for short trips for adults due to limited legroom and headroom, a common characteristic of the coupe body style.
  • Visibility: While improved over older generations, the Mustang's styling can sometimes lead to some blind spots, particularly when maneuvering in tight spaces or changing lanes.
  • Early Production Concerns: As with any new generation or significant redesign, there were minor "teething issues" reported in early production models. While most have likely been addressed by now through recalls or owner interventions, it's worth researching specific common issues for the 2007 model year.

Overall Summary

The 2007 Ford Mustang successfully revitalized the iconic pony car with its compelling retro styling, modern engineering, and strong performance options. It offered a desirable package for those seeking a stylish, engaging, and classically American driving experience. Whether you opted for the more accessible V6 or the potent V8 GT, the 2007 Mustang delivered a fun and memorable ride, solidifying its place as a beloved modern classic.
