1986 Chevrolet Greenwood Corvette Convertible The Greenwood brothers were racers who built high performance Corvettes and were perhaps better known for the radical aerodynamics applied to their cars. To fund their racing efforts, they built a series of custom built street cars, mostly during the C3 generation. They continued their efforts with the C4 offering body kits, suspension mods, aftermarket wheels, and stereo systems. For consignment, a 1986 Chevrolet Corvette convertible showing 16,717 miles, but the true miles are unknown, likely due to exemption. This is a clean Corvette with a Greenwood body kit and wing that gives the car a uniquely low, race-like profile. Exterior Flame Red Metallic clings to the car like white on rice and while it's not without flaws, it still looks great from 10 feet. The C4's shark like profile is altered and enhanced by the color matched body cladding prominently seen from the side although the corner pieces make an appearance on front and back. The wide wing extends the length of the car and contours to the body lines of the rear fascia, throwing shade on the epic quad tail lights and capping the flat decklid, especially apparent with the top down. That tan top is complemented by a pinstripe down the side of the car while the salad shooter wheels are perfectly period correct. Imperfections include some drip staining on the top, scratches on the paint, cracking window weather stripping, a number of various chips and many of them are on the cladding. Interior The tan interior starts with contoured plastic door panels with black switchgear panels and a carpeted lower insert and both are in good shape. The perforated leather seats show minimal use and are fully intact and clean while up front, the driver is presented with a thick steering wheel ahead of the C4's electronic gauge cluster with ascending light bars to indicate increases in speed and RPM's. Black colors the center stack where there's a cluster of buttons to monitor the car's conditions, a screen that illuminates with indicator lights, and the Delco AM/FM/Cassette radio, all in very nice condition. Within reach of your right hand is the Doug Nash shifter for the 4+3 manual transmission and more switches of varying purpose behind it. Very nice tan carpet covers the floor and cargo area and the lining of the convertible top is clean and black. Drivetrain Our engine bay provides some evidence that the miles are low as the clean 350ci V8 reveals itself when you pivot the hood forward, itself a great party trick! Meanwhile, the engine produces 230 horsepower and is tied to that 4-speed manual transmission with 3 selections of overdrive. Power and torque are routed to the rear axle with 3.07 gears and Positraction. Undercarriage Very clean underneath. We have no complaints as the surface rust is minimal and there are no errant fluids nor grease. Here we have four wheel power disc brakes and a dual exhaust system running through original equipment including the mufflers, terminating with quad tips out back. The stock suspension exists with a front single fiberglass composite monoleaf transverse spring with unequal length aluminum control arms and stabilizer bar. The rear comes to us as a fully independent 5 link system with a transverse leaf spring and upper and lower trailing links. Drive-Ability We set off in this C4, careful as we exit the garage keeping in mind the lowered edges. She sounds great, moves out with authority, and handles like a champ. No surprises here. We note the A/C is not working nor the power antenna. But all other functions on this youthful Corvette operate just as intended and we wing it back to the mall.
