Thanks for taking a look at our VW Vanagon Adventurewagen camper. We can be reached by email or telephone at 336-852-5852. Additional photos and the Carfax report can be seen on our website www.myautofocus.com.
Not a common vehicle anywhere, but more common on the West coast, Adventurewagen was an American camper conversion on the VW Vanagon making it essentially a mini RV. This conversion offered a permanent "high roof" unlike most other conversions that had an elevating roof with canvas sides. The Adventurewagen has ample room to stand up, storage above the cab and a slide out top bunk ideal for kids. It feels big inside thanks to the headroom and to all of the light/visibility. These campers were very high end when new and loaded down with features including sink, stove, fridge, furnace, parquet floor and more. This van is powered by a 2.0L air cooled, fuel injected engine with a 4 speed manual transmission. It does not have power steering or air conditioning.
We bought this van in California where it had always been. We liked the roof, the low mileage and the overall look with just enough patina. This van is very solid underneath with no rust issues. When the van arrived here, we found it to be somewhat disassembled inside and in need of mechanical work. The last owner had removed the cabinets, furnace & flooring and had added a swivel bas to the passenger seat. It looked like they were changing the interior to be more like a VW camper van and less like an RV. We definitely agree with simplifying, creating space and removing the weight. We completed the interior update by making new cushions and curtains, installing new carpet in the main area, adding LED lighting and both 110v and 12v USB ports. Both upper and lower bunks functioned as they did originally. The radio got replaced with a Blaupunkt Bluetooth unit. This van has a lot of room and a lot of storage. For folks used to VW camping or tent camping, it camps great! For folks who prefer the features found in an RV, this one may be too basic. We we like it just how it is!
The mechanical work was extensive. There is far too much to list. The highlights are: Rebuilt 2.0L engine, new catalytic converter, muffler, fuel injectors, both filters, electronic ignition, General Grabber 27x8.5R14 A/T tires, brake fluid flush, fuel tank reseal, H4 headlights, new battery, wiper blades, ball joints, tie rods, shocks, clutch hydraulics, shifter bushings and so much more! We have driven this bus right at 1,000 miles preparing it for sale including one long trip. It's finally ready for a new owner, and just in time for camping season!
