Message from the seller

This is a really nice truck that was recently completed. It has been gone through cosmetically and mechanically. The body is super straight and rust free. The 2-tone paint is very high quality with Rally wheels painted to match the lower color. It has new BFG radial white letter tires. The interior is freshly done in a darker blue to match the exterior. This truck has power windows and locks, tilt wheel, delay wipers, etc. The bed is coated with a spray in bed liner and does not look like it has ever been used. All of our cars are shown by appointment only. I can be reached at 413-519-0716 to set up an appointment or for any questions. As always, we will consider all types of trades. Financing and transportation are available. Why buy from us? We are a small, independent dealer who specializes in collector cars, modern muscle cars and motorcycles. We normally have 30-40 collector cars in stock and have the ability to locate almost any vehicle through our network of friends in the business and the auctions I attend. All of our cars are handpicked purchases, not consignments, that have been evaluated for quality and value. These cars are available to look over, test drive and evaluate at our location, by appointment only, due to the extensive amount of travel it takes to find these vehicles. People frequently buy collector cars at auctions and have no idea what they are getting, often regretting the purchase due to issues of condition, driveability, paperwork, etc . I have 35+ years experience in the automotive industry and can guide our customers through the complete purchase experience including all of the financing, paperwork, registration, titling and shipping if needed. We will happily consider all types of trades including multiple trades of different types if necessary. I also will purchase cars and collections of cars, automobilia, quality signs, etc. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions regarding a vehicle we have for sale or a vehicle/item you have for sale. My Email is mutualent@yahoo.com or by phone @ 413-519-0716 Thanks, John

1982 GMC C/K 1500 Series

The 1982 GMC C/K 1500 Series represented a significant evolution in GMC's light-duty truck lineup, marking the introduction of the redesigned third generation. This generation brought a more aerodynamic and refined exterior, improved interior comfort, and a continuation of GMC's reputation for robust utility.

Highlights

  • Engine Options: The heart of the 1982 C/K 1500 was its range of dependable gasoline engines. Standard was the 4.1-liter (250 cubic inch) inline-six, known for its fuel efficiency and smooth operation, suitable for everyday driving and lighter hauling. For more power, buyers could opt for the 5.0-liter (305 cubic inch) V8, offering a good balance of performance and usability. The 5.7-liter (350 cubic inch) V8 was the go-to for those requiring serious towing and hauling capability, providing ample torque for demanding tasks. Transmission choices typically included a 3-speed automatic and a 4-speed manual.
  • Safety Features: While safety features were less advanced than modern standards, the 1982 C/K 1500 included key elements for its time:
    • Seat Belts: Standard lap and shoulder belts were provided for driver and passenger, offering fundamental restraint in the event of a collision.
    • Four-Wheel Drum Brakes (Optional Front Disc): Early models primarily featured drum brakes, with front disc brakes becoming increasingly common and offering improved stopping power and fade resistance compared to all-drum systems.
    • Dual-Circuit Braking System: This critical safety feature ensured that if one part of the brake system failed, the other would still function, allowing the driver to maintain some braking control.
  • Trim Level Summary: The 1982 GMC C/K 1500 offered a tiered approach to cater to different needs and budgets:
    • Sierra Classic: This was the base model, providing essential truck functionality with a no-frills approach. It was ideal for work-oriented tasks and budget-conscious buyers.
    • Sierra Grande: Stepping up from the Classic, the Sierra Grande offered a modest increase in comfort and styling. It might include more interior amenities and some exterior trim upgrades.
    • High Sierra: Positioned as the more premium option, the High Sierra boasted enhanced interior features such as upgraded seating, better insulation for a quieter ride, and more extensive exterior chrome accents. This trim was aimed at buyers seeking a more comfortable and stylish personal truck.
  • Other Notable Aspects:
    • Aerodynamic Redesign: The 1982 model year introduced a significant styling update with a more rounded and aerodynamic body, improving fuel efficiency and reducing wind noise compared to its predecessors.
    • Independent Front Suspension (IFS): A major mechanical advancement for this generation was the introduction of independent front suspension. This significantly improved ride quality, handling, and steering feel, making the truck more comfortable for daily driving.
    • Two-Wheel Drive and Four-Wheel Drive Options: The C/K 1500 was available in both 2WD and 4WD configurations, catering to a wide range of user needs from city driving to off-road adventuring and challenging weather conditions.
    • Fleetside and Stepside Bed Options: Buyers could choose between the more conventional Fleetside bed, offering a wider cargo area, or the more traditional and sportier Stepside bed.

What to Expect

Owning a 1982 GMC C/K 1500 Series truck typically means embracing a utilitarian and robust vehicle. These trucks were built to work and often have a history of being used as such, which can mean they are well-maintained by those who depended on them. However, age is a factor, and expect that routine maintenance will be crucial for keeping it running smoothly.

  • Maintenance: Expect to perform regular maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, brake checks, and fluid top-offs. Given the era, parts are generally readily available for common wear items. Older trucks may require more frequent attention to cooling systems, exhaust components, and suspension bushings. The independent front suspension, while an improvement, can also be a source of wear and require attention to ball joints, tie rods, and control arm bushings. Finding a mechanic familiar with older American trucks will be beneficial.
  • Insurance: Insurance costs can vary significantly based on your driving record, location, and how you intend to use the truck (personal use vs. commercial). If the truck is a classic or collector vehicle and driven infrequently, you might qualify for specialized classic car insurance, which can be more affordable. Otherwise, standard auto insurance rates will apply.

Potential Considerations

When considering a 1982 GMC C/K 1500, there are a few common areas that potential buyers should be aware of:

  • Rust: As with most vehicles from this era, rust is a significant concern. Inspect the frame, body panels (especially wheel wells, rocker panels, cab corners, and bed sides), and undercarriage thoroughly.
  • Electrical System: Older electrical systems can be prone to issues. Look for signs of corroded wiring, malfunctioning lights, or unreliable gauges.
  • Carburetor (if equipped): Many of these trucks will have carburetors, which can require periodic adjustment and maintenance. If the truck has been converted to fuel injection, this concern is mitigated.
  • Wear and Tear: Due to their age and often their use as work vehicles, components like the transmission, rear axle, and engine may show signs of wear. Listen for unusual noises during test drives and check for fluid leaks.
  • Comfort and Noise: While improved for its time, the interior will not match the refinement of modern trucks. Expect more road noise and a less plush ride compared to contemporary vehicles.

Overall Summary

The 1982 GMC C/K 1500 Series is a testament to American truck engineering, offering a blend of rugged utility and a more refined driving experience thanks to its redesign and IFS. It represents a classic, capable light-duty pickup that, with proper maintenance and attention to potential age-related issues, can still serve as a reliable workhorse or a nostalgic personal vehicle. For those seeking a no-nonsense truck with a good amount of character and a simpler mechanical makeup than modern pickups, the '82 C/K 1500 is a strong contender.
