While styling was largely derivative of the older models - and nearly identical to that of the recently released flagship, the 600, the new cars offered more interior space and updated engines over their predecessors. While the W108 and long-wheelbase-only W109s were initially only built with Inline-6s, Mercedes-Benz recognized buyer interest in greater performance and smoother cruising required additional power. The first model created to appease this desire was the 300 SEL 6.3, so named for its use of the 600's 6.3L M100 V8. With 250hp and prodigious torque, the 6.3 offered straight-line acceleration on par with many sports cars of the period with a 0-60mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 137mph, making it the world's quickest production sedan for the duration of its production. Featuring four-corner air suspension and a tremendously luxurious interior, the 300 SEL 6.3 created an enduring legacy that set the stage for today's AMG models. With only 6,526 produced in total, these cars remain a special choice for enthusiasts looking for effortless performance paired with timeless styling and world-class build quality. The magnificent 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 Sedan featured here is finished in gorgeous Dark Blue with an impeccably kept matching Dark Blue interior. This exquisite motorcar has been beautifully maintained from new and shows only 23,929 miles on the odometer. This investment-grade 300 SEL 6.3 checks all the boxes in regards to color combination and exquisite condition, making this the perfect example to add to any premier collection. Offered the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who understands and appreciates the investment potential of this up and coming classic!
