Overview
This 1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible is a beautifully presented example of one of the most iconic classic Volkswagens ever produced. Finished in crisp white with a clean, well-kept interior, this Ghia offers timeless styling, excellent mechanical condition, and the open-air driving experience that makes these cars so desirable.
With its sleek Italian-inspired design and proven Volkswagen engineering, this convertible is an ideal choice for collectors and enthusiasts looking for a fun, reliable classic that stands out wherever it goes.
Brief History of the Karmann Ghia
Of all the variants and models of the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, the Type 14 is the most well-known. First introduced in Europe in 1955 and in the U.S. as a coupe in 1956 (with convertibles arriving in 1958), the Type 14 featured elegant, flowing body lines paired with Volkswagen’s dependable rear-mounted, air-cooled flat-four engine.
Approximately 450,000 Karmann Ghias were produced during its run, with only about 80,000 convertibles—making open-top examples like this one especially desirable today. Styled by the renowned Ghia Studios in Italy, the design reflects influence from exotic European sports cars of the era.
While built on the Beetle’s proven platform, the Ghia offered a lower, ???? refined driving experience with improved road manners. It was never marketed as a high-performance sports car, but rather as a stylish and enjoyable grand touring vehicle—and it continues to deliver exactly that decades later.
