This is a true survivor-style car with incredible history, ownership pedigree, and recent mechanical investment. This T/A has had just two previous owners, with the second owner being a well-known Mopar collector and doctor who had a personal connection with Richard Petty-famously saving his life at a race. As a token of appreciation, Petty helped facilitate the acquisition of this very car for him. The vehicle originates from North Carolina and remains rust-free and exceptionally clean, having spent much of its life preserved and off the road since the late 1970s. The car retains all original sheet metal with the exception of a passenger-side fender replacement from an early incident. It wears an older repaint in its original color that still presents very nicely. The body is straight, solid, and highly original, complete with the correct T/A hood, front and rear spoilers, and factory styling cues. Inside, you'll find a black vinyl bucket seat interior with center console, along with the desirable Rallye woodgrain dash. The cabin remains largely original and well preserved, adding to the authenticity of the car. A mint build sheet is included, further verifying its pedigree. Under the hood, the car has received a comprehensive and high-quality mechanical refresh, while maintaining its original T/A character. The original drivetrain components have been gone through extensively, with over $25,000 recently invested by a serious Mopar collector. The engine is a correct T/A casting block (not original VIN-matching) now professionally built into a 416ci stroker with approximately 10:1 compression. It retains the original T/A heads and rocker arms, freshly rebuilt with a three-angle valve job. A custom camshaft from 6-Pack specialist Bob Karkashian delivers excellent idle quality with strong midrange and top-end performance. The original Six Pack intake and carburetors (date-coded) have been fully rebuilt, along with the original air cleaner assembly. The A833 4-speed transmission is numbers matching to the car, paired with a new clutch and flywheel from Brewers. The original driveshaft remains in place with a Detroit U-joint. Additional mechanical highlights include: Original production exhaust manifolds with heat shields All new exhaust system with tuning bungs New electronic ignition system New Glen-Ray #974 radiator New complete fuel system (tank to pump) Fully refreshed braking system (disc front, drum rear) Original power steering pump and cooler retained The car is equipped with its original 3.91 Sure Grip rear end, delivering true T/A performance. It rides on correct 15 Rallye 390 wheels with mint original centers and trim rings, wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas tires (G60-15 rear, E60-15 front) for an authentic look. Also included are the original space saver spare, canister, and jack assembly, as well as an original front bumper (the car currently wears a '71 bumper from a past repair). With only 5 break-in miles on the freshly built drivetrain, this Challenger is essentially ready for final tuning and enjoyment.
