Message from the seller

Powered by a 327 CI V8 engine, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, finished in its original Silver Blue Metallic with a flawless white interior and blue carpet. This car was previously owned for over 45 years by a local engine rebuilder and engineer, who spent much of his time machining aluminum parts on CNC equipment during his ownership. After retiring, he devoted much of his time to carefully maintaining and upgrading this Impala with said aluminum. Some notable custom additions (but not all) include billet aluminum pulleys, chrome A/C and alternator brackets, a chrome hood striker, window trim moldings, and nearly every visible bolt on this car replaced with chrome. All in all, when looking to buy a classic car like this, you couldn't have asked for more perfection and care from an owner than this. Other information about the car includes Crager wheels, Stainless Edelbrock Tru-flow dual exhaust, billet aluminum rear sway bar, new gas tank, new rear ACDelco air shocks, boxed trailing arms with new rear springs, new front shock/springs, windshield wiper arms, Holley electric fuel pump, long tube headers, power steering, power brakes, and a front sway bar. Inside, you'll find an AM/FM radio, Air-conditioning, well-cushioned seats with no notable scratches or stains, a functional tachometer, gas gauge, oil pressure gauge, and water temperature gauge. All gauges work as intended. This car was VERY well taken care of with everything being frequently serviced and or maintained. This is a driver's car that you can show off and enjoy. Odometer reads 95,108 miles, approximately 7900 since restored.

1964 Chevrolet Impala: A Stalwart of the Classic American Automobile

The 1964 Chevrolet Impala stands as a testament to an era of burgeoning automotive design and a celebration of American optimism. As the third generation of the Impala nameplate, introduced in 1961, the 1964 model refined and polished the established formula, offering a compelling blend of style, comfort, and performance that resonated deeply with a wide spectrum of American car buyers. It solidified the Impala's position as Chevrolet's flagship full-size model and remains a highly sought-after classic automobile today.

Design and Styling: A Symphony of Curves and Chrome

The 1964 Impala continued to build upon the clean, elegant lines established in previous years, yet introduced subtle yet impactful updates. The overall silhouette remained a graceful, elongated form, emphasizing a sense of motion even at a standstill.

  • Front End: The most noticeable revision for 1964 was the front grille. It transitioned to a more refined, horizontal design with a subtle mesh pattern, replacing the bolder, more prominent grille of the preceding year. Dual headlights were still a prominent feature, housed within sculpted bezels that contributed to the car's sophisticated appearance. The bumper was substantial, chrome-plated, and wrapped around the front corners.
  • Side Profile: The side profile was characterized by a distinctive "sweep-spear" trim, a polished aluminum or vinyl insert that ran the length of the car from the front fender to the taillight. This trim highlighted the car's powerful proportions and added a touch of flair. Body styles offered included the iconic 2-door hardtop coupe (Sport Coupe), the 4-door hardtop sedan (Sport Sedan), a convertible, and a traditional 4-door sedan. The hardtop models, in particular, were celebrated for their pillarless design, offering an unobstructed view and a breezy open-air feel when the windows were down.
  • Rear End: The rear of the 1964 Impala was equally distinctive. It featured a triple-taillight design on each side, a signature Impala feature that offered excellent visibility and a unique visual identity. These taillights were recessed within a sculpted panel, and the chrome bumper again provided a substantial and elegant finish.

Powertrain Options: Catering to Diverse Demands

Chevrolet offered a wide array of engine choices for the 1964 Impala, reflecting the diverse needs and desires of the American consumer. From economical six-cylinders to potent V8s, there was an Impala to suit nearly every preference.

  • Inline-6: The base engine was the reliable 230 cubic inch (3.8L) "Turbo-Thrift" inline-six, known for its fuel efficiency and smooth operation.
  • V8 Engines: The heart of the Impala's appeal for many was its V8 engine lineup:
    • 327 V8: Available in two versions, a 250 horsepower (186 kW) and a more potent 300 horsepower (224 kW) variant, offering a great balance of performance and everyday usability.
    • 350 V8: Introduced for 1964, the 350 cubic inch (5.7L) V8, producing 250 horsepower (186 kW), provided a step up in torque and acceleration.
    • 396 V8: The "Turbo-Jet" 396 cubic inch (6.5L) V8 was the performance king, available in 325 horsepower (242 kW) and a muscular 425 horsepower (317 kW) "Special" version, complete with a four-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust.

Transmission options typically included a 3-speed manual, a 2-speed Powerglide automatic, and Chevrolet's renowned 3-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission, which offered smoother shifts and better performance.

Interior Comfort and Features: A Spacious and Well-Appointed Cabin

The interior of the 1964 Impala was designed to be spacious and comfortable, reflecting its status as a premium full-size automobile.

  • Seating: The bench seat interiors provided ample room for passengers, with optional front bucket seats available on some models, particularly the sporty SS (Super Sport) package. The SS package also often included a floor-mounted console and a tachometer, enhancing the performance-oriented feel.
  • Dashboard: The dashboard featured a clean and functional layout, with a clear instrument cluster. Options like air conditioning, power steering, and power brakes were available, further enhancing driver comfort and convenience.
  • Materials: Quality materials, such as durable vinyl and optional cloth upholstery, were used to create a pleasant and inviting cabin environment.

The SS (Super Sport) Package: Adding a Sporty Edge

The SS (Super Sport) package, introduced in 1961, continued to be a popular option for the 1964 Impala, imbuing the car with a sportier aesthetic and enhanced performance cues. This package typically included distinctive badging, upgraded interior appointments like bucket seats and a center console, and often came equipped with the more powerful V8 engine options. The '64 Impala SS is particularly revered for its clean styling and muscular presence.

Legacy and Appeal: A Classic for All Time

The 1964 Chevrolet Impala remains an enduring symbol of mid-century American automotive design and engineering. Its elegant styling, comfortable ride, and broad range of powertrain options contributed to its immense popularity when new, and these same qualities continue to attract enthusiasts and collectors today. Whether as a weekend cruiser, a show car, or simply a cherished piece of automotive history, the 1964 Impala embodies the spirit of its era and stands as a beloved classic.
