1961 NASH METROPOLITAN CONVERTIBLE C-1002 This 1961 Metropolitan convertible was produced in August 1960 and is finished in turquoise over white complimented by a matching white and turquoise interior. Power is provided by a 1.5L BMC B-Series inline four cylinder paired to a 3 speed manual transmission. The car is fitted with a continental kit. Meticulously maintained by the previous owner. The Metropolitan is offered with a clean California title. The only modification from original is an aftermarket Sony Model CDX-4250 FM/AM/CD stereo is installed in the dash and auxiliary speakers. The single Smiths gauge houses an 85mph speedometer and a 5 digit odometer showing approximately 61,758 miles. An original Metropolitan "1500" factory Owner's Manual is included. All chrome, exterior and interior finishes and all glass are excellent. The Nash Metropolitan is an American automobile assembled in England and marketed from 1953 until 1962. It conforms to two classes of vehicle: economy car and subcompact car. The Metropolitan is considered a "subcompact", but this category was not yet in use when the car was made. At that time, it was categorized as a "small automobile" as well as an "economy car". The Metropolitan "was a car that appealed to an eclectic mix of Americans" because it was "economical, yet a joy to drive," and it has been described as "pure automotive whimsy." It also "swam against nearly every current of American car design." Production ceased in April 1961 (final VIN — E95981, built 19 April 1961). Sales of the existing inventory continued until March 1962. Approximately 95,000 Metropolitans were sold in the United States and Canada, making it one of the top-selling cars to be imported into those countries at the time, and its sales in 1959 helped to spur the introduction of the Big Three (General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler) new compact models.
