Used 1961 Comet Two Door Post

By now most people who knew cars in the 60's and 70's associate the Comet with Mercury. Closer examination of the history of this particular car model reveals that it was in truth a much different story. In 1960 and 1961, Comet was the stand alone brand label for the bastard child of the then recently defunct branch of Ford Motor Company, Edsel. The Comet was to be the equivalent of the Ford Falcon in the Edsel line up. The cleaner lines and new grille was to replace the "Edsel look" which was once described as an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon. With all the design work done and many of the parts already produced it made sense to assemble the car but with Edsel gone it was marketed under the "Comet" brand name and sold at Lincoln-Mercury dealerships. Many of the parts on this car display the stamped Edsel part numbers. This car has had the exterior refinished and clear coated as well as having the interior reupholstered and is a very clean example of the model. Having good solid floor pans and frame and a responsive suspension, this car would be one described as having good bones. This particular car is not without some very minor blemish but the trivial nature of the flaws actually show how much care this car has had over the last fifty plus years. Also included in this vehicle is a full set of tires on original rims and the factory hubcaps. This rare classic was put together when they still built cars out of metal, and lots of it.
