The original restoration of this striking 190SL was performed under prior ownership while in California many years ago. Although the intent was to retain the original factory appearance and function of the car, the decision was made to update the drivetrain to increase performance and reliability. The selection of a 5.0L V8 provided exactly that, the original 1.9L SOHC 4-cylinder engine was rated at only 104HP, the car now provides a much improved 210HP with impressive acceleration and smooth idle. The shifting is handled by an updated 3-speed automatic transmission, the suspension, braking systems and rear differential are all essentially stock along with a quiet single outlet exhaust system. To make things even more reliable a Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection system has been recently added to give this car more of a turn the key and go capability. The original convertible top was also recently updated with the addition of a new black Stayfast material top, something more in line with what you would expect from a late model Mercedes. Many years of care combined with the addition of several value added improvements have transformed this classic European beauty into a more powerful and reliable version of itself, one that is certainly better suited for today's highways.
