Message from the seller

With its outstanding array of chrome trim nearly radiating against its dark metallic background, this 1947 Ford Deluxe Coupe marks its manufacturer's artistry at an important point in its evolution. This is a great-looking ride that's just chock full of post-war automotive style. And with just a little more than 2,000 miles logged on its build, it's in top-notch condition both inside and out and features some key upgrades that enhance its drivability while adding a distinctive restomodded touch to its already magnetic appearance. Its stunning black paint is looking sharp, ornamented by custom pinstriping and really showing nicely. Upgraded headlights illuminate the road ahead, while frenched taillights add a standout look from the back. Climb in and you'll be surrounded by a showpiece of an interior, with a split bench seat in front and a bench seat in back whose tan vinyl surfaces are in just the pristine shape you might expect from this classic's light usage. Some great details on display in this cabin show just how innovative designers were during this era. In front of the aftermarket wheel perched on its tilting column, the expansive chrome instrument panel is a strong example, with its notched surfaces surrounding a collection of Classic Industries gauges that blend perfectly with their surroundings. There's a Vintage Air climate control system on board to keep you and your passengers comfortable throughout the year, and a JVC AM/FM/CD stereo sits at the center of the dash to offer a quality audio experience. This stylish Ford features an array of mechanical components that make it well-suited for frequent driving in everyday conditions. Its 327-cubic-inch V8 sits at the center of a well-maintained engine compartment and is fed by an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor perched on top of an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold. Tap on the accelerator, and it sends a deep, resonant exhaust note out of the shorty Headman headers leading to a pair of FlowMaster mufflers. The added Mustang II front end brings a host of benefits, including adjustable coilovers, power rack and pinion steering, and power front disc brakes that provide fade-resistant stopping ability. An MSD coil has been added to the mix to maximize available spark, and there's an aluminum radiator up front to help keep operating temperatures under control. 1947 Ford Deluxe: A Symbol of Post-War Optimism and Refined Style

The 1947 Ford Deluxe represents a significant milestone in American automotive history, bridging the gap between the wartime austerity and the burgeoning optimism of the post-war era. As Ford's top-tier offering, the Deluxe embodied a blend of familiar styling and updated touches, offering a more refined and comfortable experience for American families. It was a car that spoke of recovery, progress, and a return to normalcy, all wrapped in a stylish and practical package.

Design and Styling: A Sophisticated Evolution

While largely carrying over the styling introduced in 1941 due to wartime production limitations, the 1947 Deluxe received subtle but impactful updates that distinguished it from its immediate predecessors. The overall silhouette remained robust and commanding, reflecting the design trends of the late 1930s and early 1940s.

  • Front End: The iconic "waterfall" grille, a signature Ford design element of the era, was a prominent feature, subtly refined for 1947. The horizontal bars remained, contributing to the car's substantial road presence. Headlights were still housed in prominent pods on either side of the grille, and the familiar rounded fenders flowed smoothly into the hood.
  • Body Styles: The Deluxe was available in a range of popular body styles, catering to diverse needs and preferences:
    • 2-Door Sedan: A classic and popular choice for smaller families.
    • 4-Door Sedan: Offering more passenger space, ideal for larger families.
    • Coupe: A sportier, two-door option, often favored by younger buyers or those seeking a more stylish profile.
    • Convertible: The epitome of open-air motoring and a symbol of newfound freedom.
    • Station Wagon: Practical and versatile, often used for family outings and commercial purposes.
    • Business Coupe: A two-door coupe with a dedicated trunk space, often geared towards salesmen or those needing more cargo capacity.
  • Interior: Inside, the Deluxe offered a step up in comfort and appointments compared to lower trim levels. Upholstery was typically cloth, with quality finishes and a well-laid-out dashboard. The instrument panel featured a clear, uncluttered design with essential gauges. While not overly luxurious by modern standards, it provided a comfortable and functional environment for drivers and passengers.

Mechanical Specifications and Performance: Reliable Power

Under the hood, the 1947 Ford Deluxe was powered by Ford's dependable and proven flathead V8 engine. This engine, a staple of Ford production for many years, was known for its robust construction and smooth operation.

  • Engine: The primary engine option was the 239 cubic inch (3.9-liter) L-head V8. This engine produced around 100 horsepower, providing adequate performance for the era's driving conditions.
  • Transmission: The standard transmission was a 3-speed manual, known for its durability. Column shifting was the norm, offering a clean and unobstructed floor.
  • Suspension: The suspension system consisted of independent front suspension with transverse leaf springs and a solid rear axle with longitudinal leaf springs. This setup, while basic, offered a relatively comfortable ride for its time.
  • Brakes: Drum brakes were used on all four wheels, providing stopping power commensurate with the vehicle's performance.

Significance and Legacy: A Bridge to the Future

The 1947 Ford Deluxe holds a special place in automotive history for several reasons:

  • Post-War Re-emergence: It represented Ford's successful re-entry into full-scale civilian production after the war. The car was a tangible symbol of the nation's ability to rebuild and move forward.
  • Design Continuity: While updated, the continued use of pre-war styling demonstrated a commitment to proven designs and efficient manufacturing. It allowed Ford to quickly meet the pent-up demand for new vehicles without the massive retooling required for entirely new models.
  • Symbol of Affordability and Quality: The Deluxe offered a compelling combination of style, comfort, and Ford's reputation for reliability at a price point accessible to a broad segment of the American population.
  • Foundation for Future Models: The platform and engineering of the 1947 Ford laid the groundwork for the more dramatically styled and modern 1949 Ford, often credited with kicking off the "fabulous fifties" automotive design era.

In essence, the 1947 Ford Deluxe was more than just a car; it was a reflection of the era. It was a vehicle that carried families forward, symbolizing hope, progress, and the enduring American spirit as the nation embraced a new and promising future.
