1941 Ford Super Deluxe Tudor Sedan In some years, and in some cars, automobile value takes an extraordinary jump ahead. 1941 is such a year for the Ford. This year, more than ever before, the facts favor Ford. If you want the best buy for your money, be sure to drive the new 1941 Ford before you decide to buy a car within many dollars of its low price! From the 1941 Ford brochure featuring their entire line and a lot of smiling faces of people who are all dressed up. Ah, the good ol' days! For consignment, a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe Tudor sedan with a title verified 22,436 actual miles. Here's an award winning example, once part of the collection of a Ford dealership owner, original as can be with many rebuilt or newer components that yield a well-sorted, show worthy Super Deluxe. Exterior Lockhaven Green is the exterior color and it's an objectively spectacular choice, one that was available in '41 amongst similar tones of blues, grays, and greens. It looks right because it is right and according to our consignor, original. The green can be seen between the hubcaps and beauty rings on wheels wrapped in white wall tires, all looking ideal. Wide fenders house the headlights in front, pinching a rather narrow grille over a chrome bumper and bumper push guard, while yellow fog lights add a blast of color ahead of the side grilles. In profile, subtle trim dresses the side and fenders while the tall roofline drops to a slant back where diminutive tail lights flank the trunk under an oval rear window. Imperfection include an area of sand marks, some rough surfaces, cracking paint, runs, rock spray, chipping plating on the underside of the rear bumper, dings, scratches, and deglazing on a window.  Interior Rose colored door panels include polished hardware with ivory handles including one crank for the vent windows, or ventilating wings as Ford refers to them. The doors were widened for '41 extending past the front seats to allow easier access to the back. The doors are in good shape but show some water staining on the lower panels. Up front, beige broadcloth adorns the split bench seat showing some small tears but otherwise in nice condition and the rear bench is excellent, configured with Ford's floating edges. Up front, the original steering wheel and dashboard exhibit a variety of colors, textures, and design, all working together for a fantastic presentation. A beige trim plate spans the dash and the horizontal gauges are further framed in woodgrain motif with ivory colored knobs below. As was standard, the front floor gets a rubberized mat while the further back gets a low pile carpet. The trunk is fully lined and houses a spare and jack. Drivetrain Power the sedan is a 221ci flathead V8, rated at 90 horsepower and fueled with a 2-barrel carburetor. It's matched with a 3-speed manual transmission routing power to the rear axle with 3.78 gears. Our consignor states the distributor, coil, and fuel pump have been rebuilt.   Undercarriage POR-15 shines things up and protects the underside where a new single exhaust system flows through a stock style muffler on its way to rear exit with ornamental chrome deflector. Drum brakes are at all four wheels and transverse leaf springs make up suspension front and rear.   Drive-Ability This classic must have felt like a golden chariot in '41, and based on the smiles in the brochure, that was the intent. Its originality puts a smile on our face too as we roll the flathead onto the test loop where the car delivers all that is expected, a smooth ride, comfortable interior, and decent visibility through large side windows. All functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.  It doesn't get more classic than the final year of the pre war era, and this '41 is a shining example of burgeoning engineerin

1941 Ford Super Deluxe: A Refined Icon of the Pre-War Era

The 1941 Ford Super Deluxe represented a significant step forward in Ford's design and engineering for the pre-war automobile market. Building upon the success of previous models, the Super Deluxe offered a more luxurious and refined experience, setting it apart within Ford's 1941 lineup and solidifying its place as a desirable classic.

Design and Styling:

The 1941 Ford showcased a completely redesigned body, moving away from the more rounded shapes of its predecessors. The Super Deluxe trim level further emphasized this new, more sophisticated aesthetic.

  • Exterior: The most striking feature was the "Aeroflow" styling, characterized by a sleek, streamlined appearance.
    • Front End: A prominent, upright grille dominated the front, featuring a bold, horizontal bar design that flowed into the fenders. Headlights were now larger and more integrated into the front fenders, giving the car a wider and more substantial stance. The hood was longer and flatter, contributing to the car's forward-leaning profile.
    • Body: The body lines were smoother and more flowing, with a more pronounced beltline. The Super Deluxe often featured distinctive chrome accents, including brightwork around the windows, door handles, and along the sides of the car, which enhanced its premium feel. The "rumble seat" coupe was a popular body style, adding a touch of sporty flair.
    • Rear End: The rear of the car was equally streamlined, with integrated taillights and a more sculpted trunk.
  • Interior: The Super Deluxe interior was designed to convey a sense of comfort and quality.
    • Upholstery: Often featured more plush and higher-quality upholstery materials, such as broadcloth or leatherette, compared to the standard models.
    • Dashboard: The dashboard was stylishly designed with a more horizontal layout, often incorporating chrome accents and a larger, more legible instrument cluster.
    • Amenities: While still reflecting the era, the Super Deluxe offered improved comfort features and a more refined cabin environment, making it a pleasant place to spend time.

Powertrain and Performance:

The 1941 Ford Super Deluxe was powered by Ford's well-regarded flathead V8 engine, a staple of the company's offerings.

  • Engine: The primary engine option was the 239 cubic inch (3.9-liter) Ford flathead V8. This engine was known for its robust construction, smooth operation, and ample torque for the time. It typically produced around 100 horsepower, providing respectable performance for daily driving.
  • Transmission: The standard transmission was a three-speed manual transmission, often referred to as a "three-on-the-tree" due to its steering column shifter.
  • Suspension and Brakes: The Super Deluxe utilized a conventional leaf spring suspension system for both the front and rear axles, providing a comfortable ride. Braking was handled by hydraulic drum brakes on all four wheels, a common and effective system for the period.

Body Styles:

The 1941 Ford Super Deluxe was available in a variety of popular body styles, catering to different needs and preferences:

  • Coupe: Including the highly sought-after rumble seat coupe.
  • Sedan: Available in two-door and four-door configurations.
  • Convertible: Offering open-air motoring.
  • Wagon: Practical and family-oriented.

Significance and Legacy:

The 1941 Ford Super Deluxe stands as a testament to American automotive design and craftsmanship just before the nation's full involvement in World War II.

  • Pre-War Appeal: It represents the peak of Ford's design evolution in the pre-war era, showcasing a modern and attractive aesthetic that was well-received by consumers.
  • Collector's Item: Today, the 1941 Ford Super Deluxe is a highly collectible automobile, prized by enthusiasts for its styling, its historical significance, and the enduring appeal of the flathead V8. Many have been meticulously restored to their original glory, while others have been customized, reflecting a wide range of owner preferences.
  • Cultural Impact: Like many Fords of this era, the Super Deluxe played a role in American life and culture, representing personal freedom and the open road.

In summary, the 1941 Ford Super Deluxe was a stylish, well-equipped, and capable automobile that offered a more refined driving experience. Its elegant design, reliable V8 engine, and variety of body styles cemented its status as a desirable classic that continues to capture the admiration of automotive enthusiasts.
