1937 Pontiac Silverstreak DeLuxe 4 Door Sedan With the Silver Streak styling theme, a wide band of bright metal that ran straight down the centerline of the hood and deck, Hershey accomplished two feats: He cleverly disguised the Chevrolet based sheet metal, and he gave Pontiac something it badly needed: a visual brand identity. The distinctive look would continue for another two decades. Introduced on the 1935 models, the Silver Streak theme proved to be a hit. Sales leaped to nearly 179,000 units, launching Pontiac briefly into fourth place, trailing only Ford, Chevrolet, and Plymouth that year. Macsmotorcitygarage.com For consignment, a 1937 Pontiac Silverstreak Deluxe 4 door sedan showing 17,407 miles, but the true miles are unknown. What is known is the car's history which has been well documented since new. Between 2010 and 2017, the car underwent major refurbishment including mechanical, paint, and interior. Exterior The body was stripped to metal, painted, and fitted with new glass, giving way to Starlight Blue paint offset by black that covers the fenders, running board, and headlight housing. The colors are fantastic, but it's the trim work that defines the stately presentation, from the grille that sends back strakes to line the engine vents and cowl to the epic band of ribs that rounds the nose only to reappear on the trunk. Out front is Chief Pontiac himself with a leading chin in chrome disguised as a hood ornament. A cream colored pinstripe is there to accent the blue and is matched by the 16-inch steel wheels which take on both the blue and cream, along with Pontiac hubcaps adding some red, and wide white walls completing the quartet of colors. Imperfections include a scuff near the trunk, on fenders, and perhaps some overzealous polishing creating a dull spot on the doors. On the back fenders, we have spider cracking and some staining by the fuel filler. A touch of paint run on one fender and scuffs on the front bumper are also on the list for a car that overall looks impressive. Interior Patterned and stitched tan cloth on the door panels is a nice complement to the wooden sills and are adorned with diminutive hardware. A broadcloth patterned material covers the bench seat up front and some ornamental buttons add to the handsome display which is mirrored on the back bench. We note one little stain but condition wise, the seats are very nice and the back occupants are privy to an elegant robe loop to hand their furs. A black steering wheel with sporty logo fronts the woodgrain dash which houses fantastic original gauges showing a bit of patina on their painted ivory faceplates. A clock and ivory knobs for the barrel style tuner of the AM radio are central while a textured rubber floor covering surrounds the curved shifter that rises to meet the driver's right hand. The headliner and windlace are excellent and the rather barren trunk does have a floor covering Drivetrain During the restoration, a NOS Pontiac 248.9 L-head inline 8 was inserted after being stripped and reassembled. Behind it the 3-speed manual was rebuilt and routes power to 4.125 gearing in back. Undercarriage Clean and rust free, other than the occasional, typical surface rust are the conditions found underneath. Here we have a single exhaust through a stock style muffler and drum brakes front and rear. Suspension consists of newer coil springs up front and NOS leaf springs in back. Drive-Ability Upright and proper, we take our seat behind the wheel of this rare car, and the straight eight deliver a smooth ride with 99 horsepower. With a long hood ahead and a deep cabin behind, she feels like a big car, even as the interior offers slightly compressed accommodations. Other than the horn, all functions on this Pontiac operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purcha
