1936 Ford 68 V8 Series DeLuxe Cabriolet Watch the Fords go by! Most often 'it's a Ford' that steps out at the traffic light. And does so easily! No fuss or effort. Seems to just glide away in a smooth flowing surge of power. There's no surprise at this alert acceleration, you've come to expect it of a V8. Today's Ford gives you modern V8 performance, with outstanding reliability and low cost. From a 1936 Ford print ad featuring a blue convertible. For consignment, a 1936 Ford 68 V8 series DeLuxe cabriolet showing 83,403 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a title exemption. Restoration on this beauty includes new paint and chrome, new wiring, fuel system, and intake, updated brakes, hoses, belt, and clamps. Exterior Some feel the cabriolet is the best body style of the 68 series cars, but we'll let you decide as you feast your eyes on the two stage Washington Blue paint, many fathoms deep, and offset by the tan canvas soft top and wide white wall tires. Trim is subtle here, lining the vents of the engine covers and the running boards while up front the grille takes center stage between bullet headlights and yellow fog lights, topped by an anatomically accurate greyhound. The sweeping tail of the car wears an encased spare tire, blue dot tail lights, and a sculpted chrome bumper. 16-inch artillery wheels are painted tan and dressed up with a beauty ring and center cap that's stamped with a blue painted V8. Imperfections are few and include a chip on the hood seam and one other on the rear fender. Interior What would have been leather or Bedford cord in the day has been updated with beautiful saddle brown vinyl while retaining original styling that includes stitch patterns on the door and symmetrical stitches on the bench seat. Your mother inlaw or kids will have to settle for less formal seating in the rumble seat but it, like all other surfaces, is in excellent condition. A gray banjo steering wheel fronts a taupe colored dash with ivory knobs and off white gauges and it's all clean. Accessories include a fan and an added temperature gauge under the dash while a candy cane colored handle tops the shifter, rising from the rubber coated floor. Chrome and wooden framing of the convertible mixes with beige material and glass window for a clean finish to this American classic. Drivetrain Looking showroom fresh, here we have the rebuilt 221ci flathead V8 behind the cover, rated at 85 horsepower and fueled via a 2-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a rebuilt 3-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear axle and 4.11 gears. You can eat off of this engine, and now it's time to head underneath! Undercarriage Were you expecting a report of a near flawless underside? Good, because that's exactly what we have with just some road spray and a spot of surface rust veering from perfection. The single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and exits out back under an ornamental deflector. Drum brakes are at all four wheels and transverse leaf springs make up the suspension front and rear and it's all fantastically clean. Drive-Ability No surprises here, the car runs as well as it looks. This is a high end restoration and based on our tests, where everything works as it should, a top tier, collector grade, 90 year old Ford. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. For the discerning collector, a museum quality Ford 68 and one of the prettiest cars you'll find from the era. Yes, that contrasting canvas top really does kick this car up a notch and makes it a shining example of a once common car. Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (that's more than 8 acres!).
