There's nothing like looking at a vehicle that was built before most of the living world was even alive. This 1932 Ford Model B Roadster is a beautiful piece of American history. Its Palisade Green color with Matte Black fenders and running boards really shows some class. The black convertible top also looks great, but this vehicle was made for cruising with the top down. The front grille, black headlight housings, and black wheels with Ford center hubcap covers simplify the timeless good looks of this roadster. The interior looks great with black and tan seats and door panels. The dashboard, finished in Palisade Green to match the exterior, looks fantastic. Shiny patterned inserts on the dashboard go great with the black gauge cluster, which houses six Mooneyes gauges: Volts, Water, Oil Pressure, Fuel, RPM, and Speedometer. The flooring is clean and well put together. Out back, the trunk is deep and ready to carry plenty of luggage for those long trips to car shows and cruises. Bolted to the engine cradle is a 305 cubic-inch engine paired with an Edelbrock 500-cfm carburetor and Edelbrock intake. Power is delivered through a Tremec TKX 5-speed manual transmission, which connects to a Bronco Ford 9-inch rear end with 3.90 gears. The front suspension features a half-boxed '32 frame rail with the original K-member, K-member lateral supports, and '40 round back spindles. In the rear, suspension consists of '35-'36 rear radius rods, '40 Ford transverse springs, and shocks. For tires, you get 5.25-16s in the front and 7.00-16LT Diamond Back Auburns in the rear, all mounted on '40 Ford steel wheels. The exhaust system is simple yet effective, with shorty manifolds and dual exhaust for a classic street rod sound. 1932 Ford Model B: A Revolutionary Step Forward

The 1932 Ford Model B represents a pivotal moment in automotive history, marking Ford's significant departure from its iconic Model A. While retaining a familial resemblance, the Model B introduced a host of advancements and styling cues that would define Ford's offerings for years to come. It was a year of significant transition for the company, and the Model B was at the forefront of this evolution.

Key Features and Innovations:

  • The Flathead V8 Option: While the Model B designation specifically referred to Ford's four-cylinder models, 1932 was also the year Ford introduced the groundbreaking Model 18, which featured the legendary Flathead V8 engine. This powerful and relatively affordable V8 engine set the Model B (and its V8-powered sibling) apart from much of the competition and cemented Ford's reputation for providing performance to the masses. The Model B, however, continued to offer a robust and improved version of the reliable four-cylinder engine from the Model A.

  • Styling Evolution: The Model B showcased a more streamlined and modern aesthetic compared to the Model A. Key styling elements included:

    • New Grille: A more rounded and integrated grille design replaced the flat, upright grille of the Model A.
    • Fender Design: The fenders were reshaped to be more flowing and integrated with the body.
    • Windshield: The windshield was angled back more, contributing to a more aerodynamic and contemporary look.
    • Headlights: The headlights were mounted more centrally and were often larger and more integrated into the overall front-end design.
    • Body Styles: Ford offered a wide array of body styles for the Model B, catering to diverse customer needs and preferences. These included:
      • Coupe: A popular two-door option, often with rumble seats.
      • Sedan: Available in various configurations, including the two-door and four-door versions.
      • Roadster: An open-top, sporty variant.
      • Tudor: A specific term for Ford's two-door sedan.
      • Town Sedan: A more upscale sedan often featuring a rumble seat.
      • Cabriolet: An open-top car with roll-up windows.
      • Convertible Sedan: A four-door model with a folding roof.
      • Station Wagon: A practical and versatile option.
      • Trucks: Ford also produced light commercial vehicles based on the Model B chassis.
  • Improved Mechanicals: Beyond the engine options, the Model B featured several mechanical upgrades:

    • Transmission: A more robust and synchronized three-speed manual transmission was standard.
    • Brakes: While still mechanically operated, the braking system was refined for better stopping power.
    • Suspension: The suspension system was also updated to provide a smoother and more comfortable ride.

Market Impact and Legacy:

The 1932 Ford Model B, especially when considered alongside the Model 18, was a monumental success for Ford. It represented a significant technological leap and a bold stylistic statement. The availability of an affordable V8 engine truly democratized performance, making it accessible to a broader segment of the population.

The Model B, with its more modern design and improved performance, allowed Ford to maintain its dominant position in the automotive market. It laid the groundwork for future Ford designs and the enduring popularity of the Flathead V8 engine, which would continue to power Ford vehicles for nearly two decades. The 1932 models are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today, celebrated for their historical significance, innovative engineering, and timeless styling. They are a testament to Henry Ford's continuous drive for improvement and his commitment to providing quality, affordable transportation.
